Obituary for Sadie Laroy (Spinelli)

Sadie Laroy, 96, of Piscataway, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2017 at St. Peter’s University Hospital. Born in Staten Island, NY to the late Carmelo and Litteria Spinelli, she attended Traphagen School of Fashion Design (a.k.a. Fashion Institute) in New York City and went on to own and operate Laroy Studio of Creative Fashion Design in Cranford, New Jersey for over thirty years. During that time, Sadie designed custom bridal, bridal party and formal gowns, including clothes for every occasion, and complete wardrobes. She held fashion shows for various charities, including Deborah and St. Barnabus Hospitals and the Cranford First Aid Squad. Sadie was a long time Cranford resident, before settling first in Edison and then Piscataway over the last thirty-four years.

She also made vestments for
the Priests and the Infant Jesus of Prague statues at both St. Michael’s in Cranford and St. Francis Cabrini’s in Piscataway. She had a love for fashion design, cooking, crafting and spending time with her family. In later years, she worked part-time for Lord & Taylor, Bonwit Teller and Fortunoff.

She was preceded in death by her four siblings.

Surviving are her dear sons Joseph and Richard Laroy and her loving niece Linda Benadetto.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 17, 2017 from 9:00 to 10:00AM at the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM on Monday, April 17, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, 32 Elm Avenue, Metuchen. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park Mausoleum.
