Obituary of Annabelle Green

Please share a memory of Annabelle to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Annabelle Green died peacefully at home in Durham, NC, on Christmas Eve night 2022. She was surrounded by family.

Annabelle was born on July 3, 1930, in Brooklyn New York. She grew up in the Prospect Park neighborhood with her parents Eugenio and Clara Gallo Benevento; and her older sister Grace. She was a fiercely proud first-generation Italian American. As a child of the Depression, she witnessed hard work and sacrifice. She formed treasured friendships through school and church activities. She enjoyed the cinema, shopping, dancing, and day trips to Coney Island. She earned her H.S. diploma from Manual Training High School.

While attending a wedding, Annabelle was introduced to William George Green. He wooed her with love letters while completing his military service with the 82nd Airborne Division. They wed on May 24, 1954 and honeymooned in Bermuda.

In 1957, they bought their forever family home on Greene Avenue in Middlesex, NJ, where they raised their four children: William Joseph Green, Kathy Grace Gallo, Lisa Ann Green, and Aimee Krisfalusi. Annabelle loved her life as a wife and mother. Her children knew that schoolwork came first, but sporting events and other activities were always well attended. The Jersey Shore was a favorite spot for family vacations.

Annabelle was known for her Italian cooking. Her crab sauce was legendary. Every holiday or milestone celebration centered on who was coming, and what she would feed them.

Annabelle was a long-time member of OLMV Catholic Church. She had many cherished family and friends that preceded her in death. She spoke often of reuniting with them in accordance with her faith.

Annabelle is survived by her devoted husband William Green and their four children Bill, Kathy, Lisa, and Aimee. She is survived by her nine grandchildren and two great granddaughters: Michael and Emily Patterson; David and Nicole Keeler, and their daughter Annabelle Marie; Matthew and Maxie Grace Haugen and their daughter Vera Grace; Mitchell, Ethan, and Danielle Krisfalusi. And she is survived by her brother- and sister-in-law Al and Valerie Thompson; brother-in-law William Wilbur; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and their children.

The family would like to thank the devoted care team at Duke Home Hospice for their wonderful support and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Annabelle's memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, which Annabelle supported throughout her life. A memorial service will be held on January 9, 2023 beginning11:00 AM in the Twelve Apostles Mausoleum at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway, NJ.
