Obituary of Agatha Tuyp

Agatha “Anja” Tuyp, age 80, of Plainfield, NJ passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 following a long battle with Alzheimers.

Anja is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Jan Tuyp of Plainfield, her daughter, Kimberly (Raymond) Felter of Pittsburgh, PA, and her daughter-in-law, Carol Ann Tuyp of South Plainfield.  Loving Oma to Nicholas Tuyp of South Plainfield, Allison (Nicholas) Pavey of South Plainfield, Ryan and Kevin Felter of Pittsburgh, PA.  Anja is also survived by her brothers, Henk (Miep) Schilder of Beverwijk, The Netherlands, Jan (Suze) Schilder of Monnickendam, The Netherlands, and Jaap (Monique Rijnders) Schilder of France, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.  Anja was preceded in death by her son, Paulus Tuyp, and her brothers, Bruin and Piet Schilder.

Anja immigrated with Jan to the United States in November 1965 from Volendam, The Netherlands and built a beautiful life in Plainfield full of friends and fun.  Anja volunteered at Muhlenberg Hospital every Thursday for over 30 years until the hospital closed.  She also worked for over 17 years for Dr. Younus Rakla, M.D.  She was also President of her Neighborhood Watch for many years.  Anja also called elderly residents in Plainfield every morning to make sure they were taking their medications and so they had someone to talk to for a few minutes each day.  Anja lived her life with a servant's heart.

Anja was a faithful Roman Catholic and a previous member of St. Mary’s Church in Plainfield.  Later, she attended mass every week at the chapel at Muhlenburg Hospital.  Anja’s favorite pastime, besides laying in the sun, was counted cross-stitching.  She not only passed along beautiful pieces made with love to her children, but there are also many birth announcements all over New Jersey that she handmade for loved ones and strangers who had new babies.  Anja loved her family and especially her grandchildren.  Her smile was bright and her laugh was contagious.  She will be missed by all whose path crossed with hers.

Family and friends may gather in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield, NJ 07080 from 1-4PM on Sunday, June 4, 2023. Funeral services will begin at 3:45PM. Cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of "Anja".
