Howard L. Holliman, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at JFK Hospital in Edison.
Born in Summit, NJ to the late Adele and Howard O. Holliman, Howie has been a lifelong resident of South Plainfield. Following his high school graduation, he enrolled in Rutgers University, graduating with a Bachelors’ in Fine Arts, Photography and Dark Room Technology.
Professionally, Howie worked in various photo studios including Beims Studio in Irvington for 10 years, then Fast Foto, alongside his dear friend, Mike Federici, for 14 years. He later worked for Aaron’s Plumbing Supply which later became Ferguson, retiring in August, 2022 after over 15 years. However, retirement was not for Howie, and he soon became a crossing guard in South Plainfield.
Although it may have seemed like work to many, photography was Howie’s true passion. He enjoyed shooting nature, but found great joy in helping his friends with shoots of their families and children. Through the years, he had won several awards for his pictures, and his work could often be seen in local art shows such as the Plainfield and Dunellen Art Shows. When he wasn’t taking photos, he could often times be found in his vegetable garden. He was proud of what he grew and would love to share it with his friends, usually a parting gift as they left his house.
Predeceased by his parents, Howard Oveat Holliman and Adele (nee Podstowski) Holliman, Howie leaves behind many close friends neighbors and coworkers, including Don and Kathy Brady, Mike Fedreici, Cassius Ali, Anne Schwartz, Alix, and Adam and Sabina Nowak.
A visitation will be held at the McCriskin Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
Burial will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 1734 Clinton Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, alongside his parents.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project in Howie’s name.
