Richard G. Kabus, Sr., 80, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 29, 2025, at his home in Little Egg Harbor, NJ.
Born in Newark, NJ, to the late Henry and Catherine Kabus, Richard grew up in Newark, before starting a family. He and his late wife, Regina, began raising their children in Bound Brook then moved to Manville and Bridgewater, before settling in Piscataway in 1976. Richard resided here until 2021, when he relocated to Little Egg Harbor.
Not long after high school, Richard began his career in the Medical Equipment Manufacturing Industry, working for Julius Hoff and Sons first, a hot forge steel company, before it was bought by Johnson and Johnson. He remained with Johnson and Johnson, ultimately Ethicon, where he helped produce and manufacture a variety of their medical equipment products. In 1996, he retired at the age of 51.
Although manufacturing was his full time job, Richard enjoyed his time at his part time job, operating a tow truck. This was his true passion, and continued to drive after his retirement, only stopping once he left the Piscataway area. Through the years he towed for Lee’s in Piscataway and Sal’s Auto Body in Green Brook. While with these two companies, Richard had the pleasure of serving not only Piscataway, but also the surrounding towns.
Outside of work, Richard loved to visit casinos, especially in Atlantic City, fishing, playing Bingo, bowling in his younger years, and of course, making his way to the local convenience stores for his scratch offs.
Above all else, he will be remembered for his kind heart, always looking to help or lend a helping hand, and especially his entertaining dance moves. Everyone who knew Richie loved him.
Predeceased by his wife, Regina Suzanne Kabus, and brother, Hank Kabus, Richard is survived by his children, Richard G. Kabus II and his wife Tracey, Ruth Ellen Siedlecki and her husband Jack, Mark Kabus and his wife Lisa, and Gina Lucas and her husband Junior. He will also be deeply missed by his cherished grandchildren, JR, Rachel, Amanda, Noelle, Jessica, Lexi, Kiera and Gabe; great-grandsons, Alex and Luke; sister, Kathleen Martin, as well as a host of extended relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at the Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway, NJ, on Sunday, January 4, 2026, from 12 PM to 4 PM.
A prayer service will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 3:30 PM.
