Lena Sorrentino Obituary

Lena Sorrentino, of Piscataway, New Jersey, passed away on February 5, 2026, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She was 93 years old.

Born on June 27, 1932, in Castell’Umberto, Italy, Lena was the beloved daughter of Giovanni and Anna Pretto. She later immigrated to the United States, where she built a life rooted in family and hard work.

Lena was the beloved wife of the late Frank Sorrentino. Together, they were the proud owners and operators of Sorrentino Disposal Service in Piscataway, NJ.

She was a devoted mother to Annamaria Bridge and her husband Timothy, Christina Dooley and her husband David, Giovanni and his significant other Marie, and her son Franco. She was a dear sister to Vonda Pretto.

Lena was a cherished grandmother to Melissa and Anthony, Nicole, Austin and Alexandra, Sage, Anthony and Megan, Cody, Franco, and Anthony and a loving great-grandmother to James, Claire, Meredith, and Luca.

Lena lived her life fully. She loved trips to Atlantic City, where she could often be found playing the slot machines, and she enjoyed a good bingo game closer to home. Black Friday shopping at the Dollar Store was a tradition she took seriously. Her home was the gathering place for big parties filled with friends, laughter, and food.

An avid card player, Lena especially loved playing Rummy with her children. She took pride in tending to her yard. She actually loved sitting in her garden, but reality was she loved working in her yard and cutting her grass or sitting in her recliner and just admiring her backyard.

Lena absolutely adored her dogs—especially Queenie. Judge Judy was always a must-watch.

One of her most treasured traditions was going to the casino with her granddaughter Nicole. Lena would cook dinner for the two of them, serve it on paper plates so there would be no time wasted on dishes, and head straight out the door. She enjoyed meals at Olive Garden and had strong opinions about fast food—her first favorite burger was the Whopper from Burger King, though later she switched allegiance to the Filet-O-Fish at McDonald’s.

Lena was known for speaking her mind without a filter. She never hesitated to tell people exactly what she thought, and those who loved her wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Visitation will be held at Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway, NJ, on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. At Lena’s request, cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org), The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (give.michaeljfox.org), or Make-A-Wish Foundation (wish.org).
