Filmore Waters Burgess
South Plainfield - Filmore Waters Burgess, 89, died on Monday, February 8, 2010 in the Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Born in Old Trap, NC., He resided in Hoboken, before settling in South Plainfield in 1957.
Mr. Burgess served in the US Coast Guard during WWII as a motor Machinist Mate 1st Class and was involved in the invasion of North Africa and Italy before his honorable discharge in 1945. He always attended and participated in annual U.S.S. Samuel Chase Ship reunions.
He had been employed as Maintenance Supervisor for Plessey Dynamics in Hillside for 30 years, retiring in 1982.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Ann (Trevisan), whom he married in January of 1944. His three sons, Steve and his wife Cindy of Bon Air, VA., Robert and his wife Candy of Branchburg and Philip and his wife Barbara of South Plainfield, a sister, Emma Lee Todd of NC and a brother, McClellan of VA. and five grandchildren, Lauren, Pamela, Amanda, Jesse and Jeffrey and a great grandson Nicholas.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
Family & Friends are invited to attend the visitation hours on Thursday, February 11, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Haven Hospice, c/o JFK Medical Center, 65 James St., Edison, NJ 08818.
