Gennaro " Jerry" Manno
South Plainfield - Gennaro "Jerry" Manno, 79, died on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born and raised in Newark, Jerry lived in Roselle before settling in South Plainfield 42 years ago.
A member of Sacred Heart RC church in South Plainfield, Jerry served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was the owner and operator of the former Jerry's Meat Market in Newark. He also worked for the Stop & Shop in South Plainfield prior to working as a meat specialist for Wakefern Foods in Elizabeth.
An avid wood worker, Mr. Manno was an excellent craftsman. This passion led him to crafting hundreds of wooden toys and decorations of all kinds. His most prized crafts were wooden models of antique cars such as 1930 Dusenberg, 1908 Cadillac, 1938 Bugatti, 1932 Lincoln and a 1937 Jaguar all of which were done to scale.
Surviving Mr. Manno are his loving family, his beloved wife of 58 years Angelina, 3 daughters; Debbie Seiler of Long Valley, Sherry Butrico of South Plainfield and Karen Gross also of South Plainfield and his son Joe of Toms River, his sister Phyllis Esposito - McLaughlin and his brother Anthony Manno. Also surviving are his 9 grandchildren; Dana, Glenn, Kristie, Casey, Matthew, Michelle, Brittney, Gina and Joseph.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 10:45 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield followed by an 11:30 AM funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield.
Entombment will follow in Holy Redeemer cemetery Mausoleum, South Plainfield.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 3, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
