Obituary of Michael P. Reilly

Michael Reilly, 68 passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 after battling a long illness at Overlook Medical Center in Summit. Born and raised on Staten Island, NY, Mike resided in Kenilworth prior to settling to South Plainfield nearly 40 years ago In 1968, Mike entered the U.S. Army serving overseas in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1970 at the rank of SP4. An avid sports fan of the NY Mets and NY Jets, Mike also followed the NY Rangers and the NY Knicks. During his children's youth, Mr. Reilly coached his boys throughout most of their sporting programs, in particular baseball. During the baseball season, if he was not coaching, he could be found down at the South Plainfield Junior Baseball Club Pony League Field catching the evening games. Mike was one of a kind. He enjoyed spending time with his dogs and tending to his lawn and pool on Saturday mornings but he truly cherished his family and the time he spent with his three granddaughters. Predeceased by two brothers; James and Harry Fletcher, surviving are his loving wife, Cathy; two dear sons, Steven Reilly (Alicia) of Brick and Kevin Reilly (Anna) of Hoboken and his three adoring grandchildren, Brianna, Ashlynn and Eliana. In addition, also surviving is his sister; Peggy LaMarca (Sonny) of Toms River. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 13, 2017 beginning at 9:15am in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10am funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-6pm in the funeral home.
