Obituary of Harold R. Robinson

Harold "Harry" Robinson, 69, of South Plainfield, died on September 21, 2017 at his home. Born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ to the late Harold and Martha Robinson, he was a former resident of Linden and Plainfield before settling in South Plainfield 44 years ago. Harry graduated Plainfield High School in 1966, and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He proudly served our country on the U.S.S. Forrestal as a missile technician before being honorably discharged in 1972. He went on to work for the N.J. State Department of Corrections at Rahway State Prison, know currently known as East Jersey State Prison in Avenel retiring as Captain. Harry was known as a hard worker, and even in his retirement, worked part time at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge. Harry was an active member of PBA Local 105 and a retired member of Local 600, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus in Avenel and the Moose Lodge of Milford, Delaware. Harry was a devoted husband, best friend to his son Scott and a loving grandfather. He was known to all as an avid NASCAR and N.Y. Yankees fan, but most of all, he loved watching his grandson Zachary play baseball. He was preceded in death by his dear sister Joyce Bender. Surviving are his beloved wife Joanne Concilio Robinson, his loving son Scott and wife Lisa of South Plainfield, and his pride and joy, his cherished grandson Zachary Robinson, as well as his extended family and friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 25, 2017 from 3:30-7:30PM at the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield. Funeral Services will begin at 4:00PM with a prayer and will continue at 6:30pm with the Knights of Columbus Ceremony. The evening will conclude with the rendering of Military Honors. Mr. Robinson will be cremated privately and his cremated remains will be retired to sea by the United States Navy off the coast of Virginia. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Harry's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project Donate Online and/or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Donate Online
