Obituary of Hilda de Amorim Gomes

Piscataway - Hilda deAmorim Gomes passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2017 at her home. Born in the Ironbound section of Newark, NJ, she moved to Portugal at age of five, returned to Newark in 1964 before settling to Piscataway in 1967 where she has resided ever since. A proud mother of five children, "Vovó" as she is known to so many and means grandmother in Portuguse is a beloved grandmother of 14 and a dear great grandmother of 5. She cherished her family and found tremendous pride and joy in teaching and raising them. Vovó also enjoyed crafts, crocheting, flowers and gardening as well as baking desserts and playing cards with the children as she shared her wisdom. She is predeceased by her husband, Benjamim, her daughter, Ana Gomes Riehle and her three siblings. Surviving are four children; Antonio Gomes and his wife, Donna, Joao Gomes and his wife, Mary Ellen, son in law, Ron Riehle, Adriana Pulido and her husband, Al, and Frank Gomes Also surviving are her fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Family and friend may attend the visitation hours on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 4-8 PM in the Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854. Funeral services will begin on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 9:45 AM in the funeral home followed by a 10:30 AM funeral mass in Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, Piscataway, NJ. Interment will follow mass in Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway. Flowers; or a donation to The Lupus Foundation or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital are welcome.
