Obituary of Desmond Anthony Bascom

Desmond Bascom was born on February 23rd, 1949 in the town of New Amsterdam, Guyana, South America to the late Walter Bascom and Lilian Bascom. He departed this life on November 30, 2020 at JFK Hackensack Meridian Health Medical Center in Edison.

 

He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years Juliet Bascom; his children, Trevor Bascom and Trecia Bascom-Benjamin; his grandchildren, Matthew Benjamin, Trecian Benjamin, Andrew Benjamin Jr., and Xavier Pearson and is father in-law to Andrew Benjamin Sr. and Juneanne Cummings Bascom.

 

Desmond was the brother of Pauline Lindsay, Walter Jr., Colin and the late Desiree; brother in- law of Ena, Pamela, Dennis, Shelly Ann, the late Abraham, Tim, Yvonne, Olive, Shirley and the late Eleanor and Milton Murray and the uncle of Frederick, Sabrina, Dennis Jr., Ryan, Bernard, Sonia, and Sasha.

 

Desmond attended Berbice High School in Guyana. At an early he entered the workforce working at Bookers Limited as a Christmas temp sales clerk. After 40 years of employment he resigned as a Manager of the then-Guyana Stores Berbice Branch.

 

In addition, while a resident of the United States, Mr. Bascom was a devoted employee at NBTY in South Plainfield. As a dedicated employee along with his hard work ethic, he was often recognized as their Employee of the Month throughout his 10 years of employment.

 

Mr. Bascom was a member of the St. Stephens Lutheran Church in South Plainfield, was a devoted father and in his younger days, enjoyed playing Cricket. 

 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2020 beginning at 10am followed by an 11am funeral service in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080.

 

Follow the funeral service, Desmond will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.

 

He will be deeply missed by his family and numerous friends. May his soul rest in peace and raised in glory.

 

We kindly ask that face masks be worn while visiting, to be mindful of physical distancing guidelines and for visitors to minimize time spent indoors to allow everyone a chance to pay their respects. We thank you for your understanding and for taking these precautions during this difficult time.
