Obituary of Frederick J Boosmann Sr.
Long Beach Township, NJ – Frederick J. “Fred” Boosmann Sr., 90, passed away on April 20, 2021 at his home on Long Beach Island.
Born and raised in South Plainfield, Fred had resided in the borough for all of his life before retiring to Holgate, Long Beach Island in 1990. An honorably discharged veteran of the United States Air Force, Fred served our country during the Korean War.
Fred was extremely proud member of the South Plainfield Police Department. His career, which began in 1956 as a patrolman, Fred rose through the ranks and became Chief of the Police Department in 1979. He held the position until his retirement in 1984. During his 28 years in law enforcement, Fred established the department’s K-9 unit, making the SPPD the first agency in the central jersey area to implement a K-9 program. In addition, as a result of his remarkable accuracy, Fred also served as Captain of the Department Pistol Team for many years.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter, a longtime member of the Double OO Gun Club formerly of South Plainfield and was also a member of the South Plainfield Elks.
Predeceased by his loving and devoted wife who died in December of 2019, Barbara Boosmann, his parents, Frederick A. and Margaret and two sitsers, Helen Allen and Mary Iarrobino, surviving are his children, Barbara Whitefleet of South Plainfield, Frederick Jr. and his wife Eileen of Branchburg and Nancy Knigge and her husband Glenn of New Egypt; sister, Dorothy Abel of Gaelna, MD; he will also be missed by his seven grandchildren, Erin and husband Dan, Allison and husband Pedro, Taylor, William, Morgan, Matthew and Sandra and great grandchildren, Liana Rae and Shae Isabel.
Visitation will be held in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 2-6pm.
All Funeral Services are being held privately and Fred will be laid to rest alongside his beloved Barbara at Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
