Obituary of Marie Thompson
Marie Elizabeth (Ronzo) Thompson, 82, passed away Monday, August 9, 2021 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Born in Plainfield NJ, Marie graduated from Plainfield High School.
Soon after graduating she married the late Walter Sr. in 1958 and the two moved to South Plainfield, where she raised her two sons.
In addition to being a loving mother, she was also was a devoted daughter to her parents, the late Diamond and Betty.
Marie worked for Mack Trucks and Circle Electrical Supply before retiring from Cooper Electric Supply.
She was a longtime parishioner of the Church of the Sacred Heart, a member of the Rosary Altar Society and Marie also volunteered in the Sacred Heart School cafeteria but her favorite job was being a mom, a grandmother and a devoted friend.
A beloved Mom and Nana, a true “people person” and a “Mom” to many, Marie will always be remembered for her vivacious, warm personality and her love of hosting family and friends at her home.
Known to her children as the “cruise director” Marie was an enthusiastic planner of itineraries for family vacations, day trips, and family gatherings. She loved to shop, read, play cards, and enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and Lancaster, PA.
Marie was an avid fan of music of the Carpenters, the musical Godspell, Days of Our Lives and Tom Selleck.
She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Thompson, Sr., parents, Diamond and Betty Ronzo and daughter in law, Michelle.
Surviving are her children, Walter Jr., (Lisa) and Jeffrey; her grandsons, Dylan and Shaun who were the light of her life; brothers, Lou Ronzo (MaryAnn) and Joe Ronzo (Sandra); cherished niece, Jenn; nephews, Joseph and Nicolas; dearest friends, Fran and Geraldine and many extended friends and family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 9:30Am in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by a funeral mass in the Church of the Sacred Heart at 10:30AM.
Family and friends may gather in the funeral home for visitation on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 from 4-7PM.
