Obituary of Joseph Robert Scarpitto
Joseph Robert Scarpitto, 94, passed away at his home surrounded by family on December 16, 2021. Born in Rahway to the late Frank and Josephine (Alfano) Scarpitto, Joseph resided in Rahway until 1957 where he then raised his family in South Plainfield. He lived in Flemington until July and most recently Lavallette until his death.
An honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army in 1947, he proudly served his country during WWII. He worked for General Motors until 1982, and then retired from Dreyfus in South Plainfield in 1992, at the age of 65. He loved sports and played softball until the age of 80. Joseph loved his family, planting tomatoes and watching sports, especially the sports played by his grandchildren.
Predeceased by his wife Geraldine in May of 2021 and daughter JoAnn in 2016, Joseph leaves behind his children; Barbara Geraghty and her husband Raymond of Ringoes, Mary Lynn Calder and her husband Tom of Leland, NC, Joseph F. Scarpitto and his wife Cathy of Lavalette. Joseph will be missed by many, especially his grandchildren; Sabrina Bogusz of Flemington, Brett Calder of Edison and fiancé Tamuna Gabelia, Joseph L. Scarpitto and his wife Natalie of South Plainfield, Jessica Wylam and her husband John of Point Pleasant, Gerianne Lewis And her husband Jeff of Houston, TX, Leonard Joseph Scarpitto (LJ) of Mount Laurel and two great-grandchildren with the third on the way.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Mausoleum of Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield on Monday, December 27, 2021 for an 11:00 am service.
