Obituary of Mary Ellen Wilson
South Plainfield – Mary Ellen “Ellie” Wilson, 78, died Saturday, February 19, 2022 at CareOne in bound Brook.
Born in Rahway, Mary Ellen resided in Perth Amboy and Bound Brook before settling to South Plainfield in 1965 where she and her late husband, David proudly raised their family.
A “Jack of All Trades” for Harris Steel Mary Ellen worked for the company until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church she volunteered as a Sunday school teacher. A member of the mineralogical Society Mary Ellen enjoyed attending rock and mineral shows throughout the country and traveling with her family, visiting beaches and collecting shells.
She also was a devoted mother, holding position of girl scout leader and boy scout den mother as well as a member of the ladies auxiliary of the American Legion.
Predeceased by her husband of 48 years, David P. Wilson and two brothers, David and Jesse Brarens; surviving are three children, Daniel and his wife, Tracy of Newton, NC, Julie Yon and husband, Andrew of South Plainfield and Patricia Zylka and husband Michael of Barnegat; three siblings, Ruth Samuda, Sue Cullis and Russell Brarens and several nieces and nephews.
She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Nadine Sansone (Andrew), Katie Werensly (Dave), Andrew Yon Jr, Kayla Wilson, Adam Wilson, Emily Zylka and Taryn Zylka; great grandchildren, Nicholas, Ryan, Dallas and McKenna and beloved cat, Zac.
