Obituary of Joanne Caponegro

Joanne (Ventimiglia) Caponegro, 78, passed away at her home on Friday, June 17, 2022 with her loving family at her side.  Born in Gratteri, Sicily, Italy to the late Giuseppe and Rose (Lapi) Ventimiglia, Joanne immigrated to the United States at the age of twelve.  Her family first settled in Westfield and in 1967, Joanne and her family moved to Piscataway.

Joanne quickly assimilated into the American culture, learning English and excelling in school.  She became the family advocate and assisted her mother with the care of her sisters.  Her beautiful smile was contagious and it lit up the room.  She loved to sew, was an amazing cook and baker, and enjoyed making all those she knew their favorite meal.

Joanne was employed as Group Leader for Dranetz Technology in Edison prior to retiring in 1994.  She was the type of person who always put others first and will be dearly missed by those who knew her.

Predeceased by her sister Sarafina D’Agasaro, Joanne leaves behind her loving husband Michael G., two sons; Michael J. and his wife Kristen of Oakhurst and Danny of Piscataway.  She is also survived by her sister Rose Fuchs and granddaughter Brittani A. Caponegro of CA.

Visitation will be held at Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854 on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and on Thursday, June 23, 2022 beginning 9:30am.

Funeral services will be held 10:00am in the funeral home on Thursday, June 23, 2022 followed by mausoleum entombment in St. Gertrude Cemetery located in Colonia.  In lieu of flowers, donations sent in Joanne’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Foundation (www.stjude.org) would be appreciated.
