Obituary of Eleanor Burke
Eleanor A. Burke was born on June 2, 1926 and passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on November 1, 2022. Passing at 96 years old, her cause of death was "a life well lived!"
Ellie was born and grew up in Jersey City, NJ, a true Jersey Girl. She moved to South Plainfield, NJ in 1958 with her husband William James when they bought their first home at 115 Adeline Avenue. She was an active parishioner of Sacred Heart Church where her children went to school and was a daily communicant when she retired. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Rosary Society, a Friend of the South Plainfield Library and enjoyed volunteering at the local nursing home to socialize with the old folks well into her eighties. For the last several years Eleanor lived with her son Jeffrey and family, in Clinton, NJ
Our loving mother retired from Lockheed Electronics where she had many great friends and colleagues. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Terry and Eugene Plaza, her husband, William J. Burke, sister Marian McComb and brother Eugene Plaza.
Eleanor is survived by her two sons, William J. Burke, Jr. and Jeffrey E. Burke and their wives Joy E. Hesselgrave & Maureen E. Burke, her five grandchildren Molly Burke, William Burke, Meghan Burke, Patrick Burke and Brianne Burke along with Nancy Plaza and many nieces & nephews.
A funeral mass will be held for Eleanor at Sacred Heart Church, 149 So. Plainfield Ave, South Plainfield, NJ at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 19, 2022, followed by the interment of her cremated remains at Hillside Cemetery, and a celebration of her life well lived at Angelina's, 2501 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ.
