Obituary of Josephine Fiorilla
Piscataway, NJ – Josephine Fiorilla, 100, passed away peacefully at CareOne at the Highlands in Edison. Born in Hackensack to the late Liborio and Teresa (Belluardo) Mauro, Josephine lived in Paterson most of her life. After retirement, she settled to Toms River until the death of her beloved husband John, and then she relocated to Piscataway.
She met her husband in grammar school and was with him until the day he died on September 15, 2008. During the war, while John was overseas, Josephine worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” and was also an Air Raid Warden in the neighborhood during WWII.
Josephine had a love for ceramics and was a veracious reader. Her true passion was going to Atlantic City and playing cards. No matter if it was a dollar slot machine or a nickel card game with family, Josephine always came home a winner. Prior to her husband’s death, she could often be found walking side by side, hand in hand, along the boardwalk. She was the true Matriarch of the family and will be missed by all those that knew her.
Predeceased by her beloved husband John, four siblings; Mary, Emma, Rocco and Peter, and most recently, her daughter-in-law Marjorie, Josephine leaves behind her loving children; John of Cinnaminson, NJ, Diane Reck and her husband Frank of Leland, NC and Jayne Mott and her husband Bill of South Plainfield, NJ. She will be missed deeply by her nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 beginning 9:00am. Prayers will be held in the funeral home at 11:00am and Josephine will be laid to rest with her husband at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown.
