Obituary of Nicholas J. McCoy, III
Piscataway, NJ – Nicholas J. McCoy, III, 61, passed away at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 5, 2023. Born in Newark, Nick grew up in Colonia, spent the last twenty years in South Amboy and then moved to Piscataway to be with his son Ian.
An electrician by trade, Nick belonged to IBEW Local 52 / 164, of the Essex, Hudson and Bergen Counties and loved being a member of the union. He had a love for music, and in high school, Nick was in the All State Band and performed at Carnegie Hall. His love of music was evident as he was featured in who’s who in American Music in the 1980’s edition. He would never miss an opportunity to be with his grandchildren and was known to put everyone first, giving them the shirt off his back if he had to. An avid sports fan, he rooted for the NY Mets and the NY Giants.
A loving father, grandfather and friend, Nick was well loved and he always did right by those he knew. Predeceased by his father Nicholas J. McCoy, Jr. and his longtime companion Jean Urbanick, Nick leaves behind his mother, Jeanne McCoy, children; Nicholas J., IV and his wife Lisa of Aberdeen, Kelsey Wortman and her husband Elijah of Edison, Matthew McCoy of South Plainfield and Ian McCoy of Piscataway. He will be missed dearly by his seven grandchildren; Declan, Nolan, and Connell McCoy and Aleigha, Ivette, Roman and Katharina Wortman as well as his siblings; Trish Yelencsics and her husband John of Edison, Kathleen Henry and her husband Jeff of Sayreville and Jeanne Leonardis of Manahawkin and his former wife, and mother to his children; Penny Simanski-McCoy of South Plainfield.
A memorial gathering celebrating Nick’s life will be held at South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Friday, October 13, 2023 beginning 3:00pm. A concluding prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 6:30pm.
