My deepest condolences to Sonya’s family during this saddest of times. I met Sonya through her beautiful daughter Gabriella, whose friendship means so much to my daughter, Zoë. Whenever I saw her, Sonya always had a smile… I can’t believe she is gone. May the memories of your time together help you through this time of grief. Gabby: know that you have friends here on whom you can lean, and shoulders to cry on when you need them, and hugs ready to receive you whenever you want. The Worrall family.

Sonya and I mainly interacted virtually, as she supported communications and collaboration between USAID New Delhi and my team in Kolkata, but even via a technology interface, I could appreciate Sonya's warmth and kindness. In our monthly one-on-one meetings we discussed the culture of India, our time living in New Jersey, and all of our travel dreams. She was a friendly positive person, and her presence is greatly missed. I am sending her family my sincerest condolences at her sad loss.

Our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences, Sonya was an amazing mother and she will be missed. We arrived at post at the same time, and Sonya was an immediate friendly face with a contagious smile and love for life. I remember navigating the new neighborhoods and all the whatsapp groups together, and we enjoyed seeing her at shared school activities. May you all have peace and comfort in the beautiful memories of her life with you.

To the family of Sonya, I send my condolences. I was blessed to meet Sonya in New Delhi, India. Sonya always had a smile on her face and was easy to talk to. Every time we spoke, there were sure to be laughs and a good time. I especially enjoyed our rides together to Bible study. I had the opportunity to learn more about Sonya’s beautiful family, her travels, her career. I also sampled some of her great cooking at potlucks! Sonya also donated clothes, toys, and money to women that had been rescued from human trafficking in India. I have nothing but wonderful memories of Sonya. What a sweet, beautiful woman. I am so privileged to have these precious memories. The gifts of her loving heart will always remain. Although I will miss her, I am comforted that she is with her Heavenly Father.

Every day when I walked in the office at USAID/India, Sonya’s smile would brighten my day and her laughter would make me smile. I have so many fond memories of her, especially her singing and supporting my crazy ideas, such as a karaoke party. Her positive attitude made her an amazing executive staff assistant — she was always willing to tackle anything. I also was inspired by her commitment to improve the lives of others. She was an amazing friend, colleague, mother, and wife. I will miss her dearly. I hope all of the happy memories bring her family and friends solace.
With sympathy,
Karen Klimowski (USAID/India)

Sonya's amazing smile and the shine in her eyes were highlights of each morning at USAID/India for so many of us and we are heartbroken that her flame has left us. She delighted in talking of her family and was dedicated to them as a devoted mother, daughter, and wife. My husband Scott, daughter Shalini, and I miss her gentle manner and joyful disposition, taking comfort in our shared memories. One particular moment of joy I will hold dear was dancing to reggae in New Delhi, where Sonya's zest for life and infectious spirit inspired others to beam as broadly as she did. May your soul keep loving, moving, and smiling, our dear colleague and friend Sonya!

Sonya had such a generous and compassionate heart. She was always willing to lend a hand or provide material support for projects and charities with which our embassy community was involved. When she learned of a street school where I volunteered, she was sad to not be able to be there physically to help as it was during the work day but immediately asked how she could help and what she could do to provide support for the kids. Sonya, your heart made a huge impact on the world and you brought smiles to so many faces - even smiles as beautiful as your own!

Sonya brought joy and laughter into so many lives and I feel fortunate to have known her. She was a sister in Christ, an incredible mother, and a wonderful person. One thing I admired most about her was her compassion and heart for others. She loved her children so much and would beam with her beautiful smile when she spoke about them. Sonya encouraged me in my walk, profession, and motherhood and I will miss her greatly. I pray for her children, husband, and family as they grieve her loss and celebrate the impact of her life.
