Leroy spent his childhood and early adult years in Metuchen before calling Freehold, New Jersey, home for more than three decades. The last chapter of his life found him in Monroe, New Jersey, but his heart never strayed far from the places that had been a significant part of his life.

Family was the cornerstone of Leroy's life, and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with those he loved. He had a heart of gold and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Leroy was an entrepreneur at heart, and one of his most notable businesses was his construction company, "Smith & Smith Alterations," He was also known for "Bulldogs Deli," a place that brought joy to many. He also had an antique store, which he ran alongside his beloved wife, Pat.

One of Leroy's most endearing qualities was his love for storytelling. He could captivate an entire room with his animated narratives, transporting everyone to the heart of the tale. His stories were as captivating as they were numerous, and they served as a source of inspiration and entertainment to all who had the privilege of hearing them.

Leroy had a deep appreciation for all things cowboy, which reflected his fearless spirit. In his early days, he worked for the Freehold Police Station and later served as a dedicated crossing guard.
