Obituary of James W. Reeves
South Plainfield – James W. Reeves, 87, loving father and husband passed away peacefully Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born to the late Mack and Anna Reeves in Newark, NJ, James grew up in Harlem, New York. He settled to South Plainfield in the early 1990s and has been a resident since.
James, a career Air Force person had courageously served the United States in the Vietnam War. His service took him around the world until his retirement in 1979. After he retired from the military, James worked for 30 years with the United States Postal Service.
James enjoyed hosting his family and friends, always offering up good food and good conversation. He also admired cars, enjoyed watching movies and listening to music.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Karla (Trott) Reeves; children, James Reeves, II and wife Ruth, Cynthia Reeves, Debbie Jefferson, April Jackson and husband John Boone, Jade Reeves and wife Yanet and Antonio Purnell and wife Regina; sisters, Cynthia Futrell, Deborah Tuddles and Rosalind Reeves and dedicated family friend Goodwin Goddard also known as “Pick”.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Karla, children, sisters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends may gather on Monday, April 8, 2024 at 9:30AM in the South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield NJ 07080, funeral services will begin at 10:00AM.
James will be laid to rest in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown.
