Joven A. Cabanday, 50, passed away on April 24, 2024, in his hometown of Edison, New Jersey.
Born on November 14, 1973, in New York, NY, Joven was known for his kindness, loyalty, humor, and larger-than-life personality. He was witty and brought laughter wherever he went.
Joven also was known for his unwavering dedication to his family—particularly his parents, sister, nephew, and three adoring nieces. Above all, he will be remembered for his selflessness to his friends, colleagues, and all those he encountered, for he was always willing to put the needs of others before his own.
A lifelong resident of New Jersey, Joven attended John P. Stevens High School in Edison and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in English at Seton Hall University in South Orange. Upon graduating in 1997, he commenced a successful career in public relations and corporate communications, mainly in the legal and professional services industries. For more than two decades, Joven represented a number of prominent clients and was proudly working as a communications manager in the New York City office of Paul Hastings LLP, one of the world's leading law firms, at the time of his passing.
Outside of work, Joven enjoyed fishing, exploring pop culture, showcasing his considerable skills as a cook, and spending time with family and friends whenever he could. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral and regularly attended mass with members of his family—often bringing his mother, who was unable to drive herself.
Joven is survived by his father Jovencio, mother Fely, sister Jocelyn Waga, nephew Jeremy Waga and nieces Jenna, Julia, and Jiselle Waga, many cousins and godchildren, as well as countless friends.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 and Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 5 - 8 p.m. in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, New Jersey.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 6, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral in Metuchen, New Jersey, followed by entombment at Resurrection Burial Park, 899 E. Lincoln Avenue, Piscataway, New Jersey at 12:15 p.m.
