Obituary of Dorothy Ann Coren
Middlesex, NJ – Dorothy (Ferguson) Coren, 84, known by many as “Dottie” or “Fergie,” passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, with her loving husband Joe at her side. She was born in Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster, PA to the late Robert H. and Sarah Anna (Porter) Ferguson. After Marriage in 1963, Dottie and Joe moved to the Cherry Avenue Apartments in Bound Brook. With a new member of the family on the way they moved to Middlesex in 1967.
Dottie was first employed as a secretary for a prominent lawyer in Lancaster. She was then employed as a secretary at the New Holland Machine Company in New Holland PA. Once married and relocated she was the executive secretary for the president of American Standard in Piscataway. After taking time off to raise their girls, she returned to work as the Administrator of The Municipal Court of Middlesex Borough. After several years, in the court, she became the Administrator of the Office of the Construction Official in Middlesex Borough. She retired from the Borough of Middlesex with over twenty-five years of service.
Dottie loved to travel. She looked forward to visiting family and friends in Pennsylvania and Florida as well as trips with her sisters. Dottie was always doing. She was a leader in Brownies and then a Girl Scout Troop for her daughters. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafts, making candles, crocheting and sewing. She played the piano beautifully.
Dottie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of sixty-one years, Joseph, and their two daughters; Penny Luxich (Jim) of Stockton, NJ, and Sandy Coren of Hampton Falls, NH. She will be dearly missed by her two sisters; Jean Jones of Lancaster, PA, and Gladys Herr of East Petersburg, PA, her niece Ms. Connie Herr as well as her cherished friend since first grade, Pat Heisey of Lititz, PA. Many cats had the good fortune to come into her care over the years and her affection for them was limitless.
A memorial gathering honoring Dottie’s life will be held on June 5, 2024, from 5 pm until 8 pm at Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846. A concluding prayer service will begin at 7:30 pm.
In place of flowers, Dottie wishes that donations be sent to any animal rescue or charity of your choice.
