Obituary of Marilyn R. Capasso
Marilyn Rose Mercurio Capasso, 89, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2024 at The Bristal Assisted Living at Somerset where she lived for the last 2 years and has made many cherished friends. She was born and raised in Newark to the late Thomas and Mary (Santucci) Mercurio, and then settled in Piscataway with her loving husband Joe Capasso, Sr. of almost 63 years.
After raising her two children Judy and Joseph, Marilyn went to work for United Jersey Bank as assistant Manager. Both Marilyn and Joe were active in the Tri-County Seniors and Traveling Seniors and Piscataway/South Plainfield Senior Citizens and Our Lady of Fatima Church RC Church in Piscataway. Marilyn was also President of the Women’s Auxiliary Little League Baseball.
Marilyn cherished spending time with family and friends, and was able to welcome her Great Grandson Elliot Joseph, this past February. Her true passion was her family, and her true Italian heritage, she was an awesome cook and known for her delicious Christmas cookies and her beautifully embroidered tablecloths.
Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, Joseph. She leaves behind her sister Cathy, her husband Adolph Turay and brother Danny and wife Nancy Mercurio. Daughter Judy and husband John Himelrick, son Joseph Jr, his wife Debbie as well as grandchildren JT Himelrick, Jillian and husband Erik Roethke and of course, great grandson Elliot and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Friday, May 31, 2024 from 4pm until 8pm. On Saturday, June 1, 2024, family and friends may gather directly to Our Lady of Fatima RC Church in Piscataway for a 10:30am funeral mass. Marilyn will be laid to rest privately at Resurrection Burial Park also in Piscataway.
