James M. "Sonny" Boccia South Plainfield, NJ - James Mario "Sonny" Boccia, 79, entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 26, 2010 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Born in Newark, NJ, he had been a lifelong resident of South Plainfield. Sonny graduated from North Plainfield High School in 1949 and then enlisted in the United States Army. While serving overseas in Germany, he belonged to the 3rd Armored Division and was a member of the Division football team. He retired in 1986 as an insurance agent from Prudential Insurance in Scotch Plains. Having owned and operated his own construction business; "Gibraltor Construction" he did many odd and side jobs, and most recently he could be found at the Plainfield Country Club where he worked in the maintenance department. He had a passion to cook, especially making clams casino. He was a true family man spending countless time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Sonny could often be found at his beach home in Ortley Beach. He liked to go clamming and crabbing and enjoyed taking his yearly trips to Aruba. He is predeceased by his parents Frank and Anna (Pellegrino) Boccia and by his brother John who passed away in 2003. Sonny leaves behind his wife of fifty-eight years Sylvia (Venditti) Boccia and by his three daughters; Deborah Palmer of Brielle, Karen Boccia of South Plainfield and Jamie Boccia of Ortley Beach. His two granddaughters Lindsay and Clair Palmer will miss him dearly. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2010 beginning 9:00 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 9:30 AM funeral liturgy at Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church in South Plainfield. Burial will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 14 Commerce Drive, Suite 301, Cranford, NJ 07016
