Peter A. Rogers
South Plainfield - Peter A. Rogers, 91, died on Monday, June 4 2007 at the Woodlands Genesis Eldercare in Plainfield.
Born and raised in Newark, he lived there until moving to South Plainfield in 1949, where he has lived ever since.
Pete was a bartender for over 40 years, working for 36 years at the former Somerville Inn. Prior to that, he bartended at the Shackamaxson Country Club in Scotch Plains, retiring in 1982. Upon his retirement, he bartended part time in various restaurants and country clubs in the area.
Mr. Rogers served in the US Army during WW II, and was a member of the South Plainfield American Legion Chaumont Post 243.
Pete had been one of the organizers of the former Police Reserve in South Plainfield, serving as the first Chief.
He was pre deceased by his wife: Bertha Wallis Rogers in 2003 and by his sister: Emily Ruggiero.
Surviving are his daughter Patricia A. Bradshaw, his son Peter A. Rogers, Jr. both of South Plainfield, his son and daughter in law: Richard and Rae Angela Ruggiero of Clifton and his 4 grandchildren Cara and Samantha Ruggiero and Michael and James McDonough and 3 brothers: Victor of Shreeve Port, LA., William of NY and Robert of NJ.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 11:30 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield.
Interment will follow in the Brig. General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
Relatives and friends will be gathering in the funeral home on Thursday, beginning at 10:30 AM.
