Obituary of Patrick E. Reidy

Patrick E. Reidy Hillsborough - Patrick E. Reidy, 74, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Pat entered the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in Metuchen, St. Joseph's High School at age 14. Pat had a lifelong love and desire for Education. He attended Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, and continued his education at Fordham University in NYC where he earned a Master's Degree in Theology. He also earned a second Master's Degree in Education from Boston College. His long and rewarding career in Education began at St. Joseph's High School in Metuchen where he served as a teacher and Principal. He later worked at St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City where he taught math and worked as a Vice Principal prior to his retirement in 2008. He continue teaching while retired as a substitute teacher and tutor. At the age of 50, Pat began a 24 year marriage to the former Margaret Battlebury, they had resided in South Plainfield before settling in Hillsborough. In addition to his wife, Margaret, he is survived by his four step children and their spouses; Joseph B. & Peggy DeAndrea, Jr., G.A. & Susan DeAndrea, Wendy & Jack Katz and Pamela DeAndrea & Jim O'Riordan. His sister, Ursula Clarke & her husband, Dennis and his brother; Dennis Egen. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Joseph & his wife, Lenore, Peter, Jeannine, Sarah, Rachel, Galya & her spouse, Dror, Jack & Sintayehu. He was predeceased by his mother Nora Nestor, father Patrick J. Reidy, and step-father Edwin Egen. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 28th at 3:00PM at St. Joseph's High School in Metuchen. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Materi Centre, PO Box 520, Meru, Kenya, East Africa where Patrick visited during his time with the Brother's of the Sacred Heart and continued to support throughout his life.
