Union - Kenneth W. Suydam, 82, died Wednesday April 15, 2015 at Peggy Coloney's House in Scotch Plains, NJ. Born in Middlesex, Ken grew up in South Plainfield, graduating from North Plainfield High School in 1951. He enlisted with the United States Air Forceand during his service, earned a National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. After his honorable discharge, Ken resided in Cranford before settling to Union. A volunteer with Somerset Medical Center and former Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Ken enjoyed gardening and reading. He was also an active member of the church's mens club. An avid runner, Ken finished his first half marathon at the age of fifty. He was also an avid traveler, visiting Peru and Mexico. Surviving are his wife, Jeanette (Garcia) of Union; sister, Marie Myers and husband Ken of Branchburg; two step children, Linda Spreen her husband Robert and daughter, Jessica of Union and David Anderson of Cranford; three nieces, Donna Rodriguez, Karen Kirchofer and husband Rob and Kathi Schmitt and husband Brian and nine great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will begin on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 12PM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery of Samptown, South Plainfield. Family and friends may attend visitation on Saturday beginning at 10AM until the service time. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude or the Humane Society.
