Alan J. Tillotson South Plainfield - Alan J. Tillotson, 82, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012 at his home. Born in Elizabeth, Alan resided in Roselle and Westfield before settling to South Plainfield in 1962. He honorably served his country as a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War from 1948 until his discharge in 1951. Alan was employed as a mechanical engineer, working for Graver Water Company in Union, American Cyanamid in Bound Brook and retired from Merck in Rahway, NJ After his retirement, Alan enjoyed working part time for the Plainfield Country Club's maintenance department . Alan was an avid golfer who participated in various leagues, enjoyed bowling and fishing, as well as, assisting with the Boy Scouts Troop #125 and South Plainfield Junior Baseball Club. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara J. (Taber), three sons; David and Suzanne of Hillsborough, John and Joanne of South Plainfield and Rick and Kim of Yarmouth, Maine, sister; Edith Clayton of Toms River and a brother; Robert Tillotson of York, Maine. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren; Melissa Pfeil, Jennifer, Chris, Ricky, Ally and Cayte Tillotson and a great granddaughter; Leah Pfeil. Family and friends may attend a visitation on Thursday, August 16, 2012 from 4-8 PM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield NJ 07080. Funeral services will take place on Friday, August 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Cremation is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the VA NJ Health Care System, Voluntary Services 135, 151 Knoll Croft Road, Lyons, NJ 07939.
