Obituary of Marcella A Thomas

McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals 908-561-8000 South Plainfield - Marcella A. (Bergan) Thomas, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at home. Born in Wilkes - Barre, PA, Marcella grew up in Hanover Township, PA before relocating to Newark in the 1950's. She and her late husband, James settled to South Plainfield in 1959 where they raised their five children. A shipping clerk for Leland Industries and late\r receptionist for Surprise Store, her full time and most significant job was that of being a mother and grandmother. Marcella was a faithful communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church since 1959. When not busy with her large family, Marcella enjoyed reading, doing the daily newspaper crossword and watching game shows, golf and tennis. Predeceased by her husband who died in 1997, James G, surviving are her five children, James G. Jr. Thomas of South Plainfield, Regina Thomas of Kew Gardens, NY, William Thomas of South Plainfield, Vincent Thomas of Skokie, IL, Noreen Rotondo of Warren and brother, Jack Bergan and wife Margaret Alice and many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren and one great grandchild due to arrive in December. Funeral services will begin on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 9AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield at 10AM. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Family and friends may attend the visitation hours on Wednesday from 4-8PM in the funeral home.
