Jackson - Raymond A. Obester, 85, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Leisure Chateau Care Center in Lakewood.
Born in East Rutherford, Ray was raised in Passaic, resided in Linden and settled to South Plainfield where he lived for many years before recently moving to Jackson.
He served in the United States Navy at the conclusion of WWII as an aircraft mechanic.
Ray was initially employed by Plessey Airborne Dynamics in Hillside, and later worked as an Aeronautical Engineer for GEC Marconi of Whippany. He retired in 2002 and continued as a consultant for the company where one of his last projects involved engineering for the Boeing 777 airplane.
In his younger years, Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling with his wife.
He is predeceased by his wife who died in March of 2006, Ruth T. (Folio) and a brother, Andrew Obester.
Surviving are two daughters; Robin Rose and her husband, Ronald of Medford Lakes and Renee Obester of Hoboken, a son; Robert of South Plainfield and a brother; Arthur of California and three grandchildren; Jonathan and Nicholas Tierney and Richard Rose.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funeral, 2425 Plainfield Ave, South Plainfield NJ 07080.
Cremation will be private.
Family and friends may attend the visitation hours on Thursday, March 14, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004.
