Robert (Bob) Messer, 73, of South Plainfield passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on February 28, 2013.
Bob was born in Newark, NJ and grew up in Union, NJ. After graduating from Union High School, he enlisted in the Air Force with the 84th Fighter Group. After his return home, Bob attended RCA Technical Institute and was an Electronic Technician by trade. Over his 40-year career he worked for various companies such as Engelhart, GE, Video Corporate of America, and Modern Mass Media.
Bob met Barbara, the love of his life, the summer of 1968 and married the following year. They moved to South Plainfield in 1971, where they raised two daughters and have resided for the past 41 years.
Bob (aka Pathfinder) was a member of the Harley Owners Group (HOG) since 1989, and has made many lifelong friends.
The only son of the late Henry Messer and Consuelo (Grimm) Messer, Bob is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Barbara (Kane) Messer, daughter Erica Lage and husband Juan, daughter Cheryl Kinsley and husband David. He leaves behind his four grandchildren, Sabrina, Keira, Lucas and Joshua.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church, 120 Kosciusko Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 4, 2013 from 6-9 PM and Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
Memorial donations can be made in his name to the Visiting Nurse Association Group Foundation Office, 176 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ 07701.
