In memory of Bob Neumann the super hero who chose to be my Dad
Time to say goodbye now, but I wish it was hello
Time for you to leave here, but so hard to let you go.
Time to tuck the memories safe within my heart
Time to pick up pieces that have fallen all apart .
Time will keep on moving never stopping for my grief
Time will just forget our plans as I sit in disbelief .
Time to say goodbye now since life's given me no choice
I will miss your sense of humor and the tone inside your voice.
I will miss the grin you gave me and the good times that we had
But most of all I'll miss the fact you chose to be my Dad.

Bob was truly one of finest men I have had the privilege to know. L didn't get to talk with him much after I left NJ, and I missed his sense of humor. You always knew where you stood with Bob and I knew I could bounce ideas off of him and get honest feedback.
Jean you have my deepest sympathy. I will miss my friend

Our sincere condolences to Jean & Bob’s family; we share your loss. Bob has been an active member of the ASHE Chapter, Healthcare Facilities Management Society of NJ for decades. Bob has served as President of our Association in 2000; Chair of the Healthcare Engineering Advisory Board as our representative to the NJHA; Contributor & Chair of our newsletter “BlueLine’ which he christened last century; He elevated our ASHE Advocacy involvement 20 years ago which has stood as a national standard until today; our Constitution & ByLaws were a specific & consistent ‘hobby’ of his; Bob has served on the Executive Board & as Trustee for virtually all of this century; plus involved in a varied assortment of support activities including T-Shirts, our name change from the EHE Executive Hospital Engineers; Committee Chairs, and enthusiastic involvement in many of the business & social activities of our Organization. He never threw his rare & honorable PhD in Engineering on the table to support his position, We have lost a colleague, a member, Past President, Trustee, and friend.
Bob always had an opinion & we always knew what it was. A no-nonsense focused goal driven individual who had little patience for long-winded discussions and zero tolerance for stupidity. Yes Jean; we all respected his Quirky humor & personality. Bob’s collective contributions have raised the quality of Facility Healthcare in NJ, and the operations & status of our Society. I cannot possibly do him justice in listing or celebrating his work or commitment. The HFMSNJ owes Bob a debt of gratitude & his presence will be missed, his life spent with us shall be remembered. Personally, I would like to add how much he appreciated family & I recall a special wedding that seemed to elevate his spirit for the rest of his life.
If space allows, I would like to honor Bob by using his own words published just a few years ago in The BlueLine that has his professionalism & humor wrapped around solid sage advice & observations.
May he rest in peace.
Michael DePadova; Past President & Trustee HFMSNJ

TRUSTEE TAIL
By Bob Neumann, CHFM,
Past President -2000
One of the challenges of being a trustee of our organization is that it takes you a few years going through a bunch of offices to get there, and then you really don’t have a job description. Basically the one I have latched on to is “make sure the things are being done that will guarantee the future of the organization.”
So going into yesterday’s meeting, I thought I would get out without a task (Silly me.) I had read all the thousand’s of email that circulate each month and all seemed fine and going smoothly. My wife was busting me that I don’t wear my EHE embroidered button down shirt so I put that on for the meeting.
First task I was handed was why don’t we have shirts (clothing) available for members with the current logo (Because no one asked….). So I ask a fellow trustee to get me a good scanable version of the logo and six hours later, I have it. I’ll go get it programmed but what I need to know is, what type of clothing do we place it on? We had a ‘ denim’ weight button down before and a white two button polo with contrasting sleeves and placket. There were also two pull-on golf shirts. What I normally do is take orders (and money) and as I get the product, I mail it to the recipient. Most of the clothing is male or unisex styling and I order what people tell me is their size, just in case they plan on shrinking or expanding. I’m also going to see if the vendor will include embroidering opposite the logo, the name and title (such as Bob Neumann, Past President-2000 on mine) –I hope to have a sample for our next meeting but if you want to order something now, let me know by email at bobnnn@aol.com.
Now that I have the logo, I can go into Task Two –ID’s. Many of us have, and are still wearing our work ID’s because that is where we were prior to the meeting. Some of us don’t have ID’s –so my task is to provide something quality so you know who you are talking to if they mumble their name.
I figure my plate is full now and nothing will be given me to do before the education section –wrong. A vendor member comes up to me and wants me to look into the language in the C&B about retired vendor members –We took a few minutes to go over his concern and I agree to come up with some language to present to the board before we break for the summer.
So when people tell you the trustees job is “to do nothing,” don’t believe them…..

Robert’s family: I'm so sorry for your loss. I went through a similar situation and I was very helped by the hope that I found in the Bible in John 5:28, which says, "Do not amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I am sending you a link with more information on this hope.
